Dissolution (2023)
Experimental Animation
Director: SUJIN KIM
Original Music: EDEN AVERY
“A process of dissolution is a process of creation.” Dissolution (2023) is an experimental animation that takes the audience on a mesmerizing journey of dissolution through a series of animated illusions that feature infinitely continuing seamless transitions. The project showcases my idea as a creator that the process of dissolution is not an end in itself, but rather a process of new creation and evolution.
This project marks the culmination of my dedicated efforts to developing a new animation production method that dissolves the traditional boundaries between 2D and 3D animation. Although Dissolution appears to be a fully hand-painted animation, with a consistent style, tone, and technique, it is actually an innovative blend of a variety of animation techniques, including highly polished 3D animation and simulations, hand-drawn 2D animation, and AI-generated prompt-based animation that features visual instability. These disparate styles and technical approaches are seamlessly united through the use of a neural style transfer tool that was pre-trained with AI.
